Underground Utility Construction

Overview

Consolidated is looking for a motivated individual to perform duties related to the installation of fiber optic facilities including running heavy equipment and maintenance of equipment in Mullen, NE.

Responsibilities and Duties:

• Receives, reviews and interprets staking sheets and construction plans.
• Locates buried facilities.
• Loads and unloads equipment and materials.
• Plows, digs, bores and trenches to install and repair underground cable and conduit by properly operating construction equipment.
• Installs and removes aerial cable, including installation of messenger strands and transfer of cable and equipment to poles.
• Pulls cable through underground conduit systems and duct.
• Mounts customers’ demarcation devices.
• Splices cable to protector devices and customer drop cable to the feeder cable.
• Sets pedestals, vaults, and warning signs. Grounds and marks new pedestals & fiber vaults when installed.
• Restores all disturbed surfaces to as close as possible to original condition.
• Inspects and maintains vehicles and work equipment.
• Identifies and troubleshoots malfunctioning or inoperative construction equipment.
• Reports malfunctioning or inoperative equipment to Construction Foreman.
• Ensures that all tools and equipment are in good working order.
• Maintains construction records, including as-built drawings, outside plant work orders and material usage sheets, as required.
• Maintains buildings and generators, as assigned.
• Cleans shop area and garage.
• Travels with overnight stays.

Experience and Requirements:

• No experience necessary.
• High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
